JESS BARBER

Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP, AES, ESSAM)

managing director

Special interest areas: Musculoskeletal rehabilitation, strength & conditioning, paediatric exercise interventions

Growing up on the Liverpool Plains I have always enjoyed an active lifestyle and right throughout my school years I knew I would move in to a career in the health industry. While I was originally leaning towards Physiotherapy, I can say I honestly I have no regrets taking the path of Exercise Physiology, with such a broad scope, you can really take it anywhere!

After being in the field for 5 years, I have come to really appreciate the significant difference I can make in a person’s life with just the power of movement. Whether that be helping someone feel more confident and steady on their feet, their ability to play and engage with their grandchildren or simply reduce their pain, movement is a powerful medicine in improving one’s quality of life.

When I am not at work I enjoy being outdoors, at the family farm or on the coast (usually in a surfboat), taking the time to do the things that fill my cup, so I can help others fill theirs throughout the week.

LUCY DAY

Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP, AES, ESSAM)

Special interest areas: musculoskeletal rehabilitation and neurological conditions

Growing up not so far away in Gunnedah, I aspired to play a role in offering Exercise Physiology services in rural communities, in particular my home town. I have always been passionate about health and fitness and, after completing my studies in Armidale, I joined the 360 Health Clinic team in late 2019.

My passion is using exercise to improve people’s quality of life. I strive to provide people with the knowledge to take control of their health, making maintaining an active lifestyle a little easier.

Sunita Reader

Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP, AES, ESSAM)

Special interest areas: Older adults & falls prevention, but as a new graduate I am also loving the variety in my caseload

Growing up I always loved exercise and playing sport, but didn’t know what I wanted to do when I finished school. Looking at the list of degrees on offer I saw Exercise Physiology and thought it might be interesting. I am so glad that I chose to study Exercise Physiology and have found it really interesting and amazing to see what exercise can do for people.

While studying I was struck by how beneficial exercise can be in managing and preventing chronic conditions and I am so excited to be able to use exercise to help people.

I grew up in Armidale and was keen to stay regional and help people in rural areas and I believe as an Exercise Physiologist I will be able to do this. In my free time I love going for walks, playing soccer and volleyball, but you can also sometimes catch me binging something on Netflix.

CHARlee gillham

ACCREDITED EXERCISE SCIENTIST (AES, ESSAM)

Growing up in Gunnedah, I am passionate about helping people in rural areas achieve active lifestyles for the betterment of their health.

I studied a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science in Bathurst and then spent a year and half working in Perth. As this work was largely in the field of Pre-Employment and Functional Assessments, I am eager to be able to jump in and start working in the field of exercise prescription in both 1:1 and group based settings.

After my time in Perth, my fiancé and I took the scenic route home, exploring this great country and now call Boggabri home. In my down time you’ll find me on the netball or squash courts, or hanging out with my dogs Frankie & Buster.

Charlotte moore

Accredited Exercise Scientist (AES, ESSAM)

Special interest areas: adolescents, athletes and strength & conditioning

Growing up in Port Macquarie, I understand the challenges that face regional and rural communities when accessing health services like exercise professionals. I want to help in bettering the health of people living in our community and I am passionate about promoting the advantages of exercise and healthy living habits.

I studied a Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science at University of Technology Sydney and enjoyed my placements working with a range of people, particularly teenage athletes and older population.

I have been in the fitness industry for over 2 years teaching cycle, boxing and functional fitness and am excited to continue my journey taking on a range of classes and clients. Outside of work you’ll find me studying my Masters degree, getting involved in Rotary projects, in the kitchen baking lots of yummy treats and camping with my partner and friends.

neve kennedy

accredited exercise scientist (AES, ESSAM)

Special interest areas: disability and Pilates

Growing up in Kempsey, I spent most of my days training or competing in sports with netball taking up most of my time. I began to see the correlation between exercise and mental health so I decided to undertake my Bachelors in Exercise and Sports Science at CSU so that I could help others see and reap the benefits of physical activity.

I moved to Tamworth in my final year of studies and began work as a disability support worker which allowed me to gain many skills. I am planning to further my knowledge by completing a Masters degree in Exercise Physiology.

When I'm not at work I enjoy going for walks or to pilates, as well as hanging out with my friends and family.

Ellie Dunlevy

Pilates instructor

Currently on maternity leave

I grew up in the far west of NSW in the small, regional town of Cobar. I’ve always had a love of sport, fitness and anything that can get me involved with our small communities. Exercise and physical fitness is so crucial to the health of our communities and I love being a part of that.

After a stint living on the Central Coast, my family and I moved to Gunnedah in late 2021 and I discovered Reformer Pilates and I was hooked. I fell in love with mat Pilates back in 2020 during lockdown while I was at home with a newborn. When 360 Health Clinic in Gunnedah started offering Reformer classes, I signed up to attend instantly and found a new appreciation for Pilates all together. I decided to embark on my Teacher Training to become a certified instructor in 2022 and was accredited in early 2023.

I love the strength and toning Pilates brings me. When I am on the reformer or the mat, my mind is only focused on the workout, and I love that. I love working with the locals and seeing them appreciate the strength and flexibility they are achieving by coming to classes regularly.

FAQs

  • What is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist?

Exercise Physiology, or EP, is the study of the body’s acute responses and chronic adaptations to exercise and how this affects our physical and mental health. Through this knowledge, an Exercise Physiologist is the best positioned allied health professional to prescribe exercise as medicine for any number of chronic health conditions, such as diabetes, arthritis, mental health, cancer, chronic pain and many more. They also play a key role in musculoskeletal rehabilitation following injury or surgery and can assist people living with a disability better manage their health and maintain their independence.

A common question asked is ‘ how does that differ from a Physiotherapist?’ While there are similarities, a Physiotherapist’s training has much more emphasis on the assessment and diagnosis of disease and injury with treatment focused around the acute reduction of symptoms generally with a more “hands-on” approach. An EP’s role tends to focus more around increasing the individual’s functional capacity, improving quality of life and the long term management of symptoms utilising exercise and movement to generate therapeutic outcomes.

  • What is an Accredited Exercise Scientist?

Sounds a bit made up, right? But in fact, an Exercise Scientist has completed a minimum of 3 years tertiary study, learning about the science of exercise. Through this knowledge they are able design and deliver evidence-based exercise interventions to improve health, fitness, well-being and athletic performance. In addition to this, they have a deeper understanding of the effect exercise has on the PREVENTION of injury and chronic health conditions.

Within 360 Health Clinic our Accredited Exercise Scientists work closely with our Accredited Exercise Physiologists to provide a continuum of care for our clients, whether that be through ongoing supervised exercise sessions, or progression in to group programs.

  • What to expect at your initial consultation with an AEP?

During your initial consultation with an AEP, they will do a comprehensive assessment in order to develop an exercise plan designed specifically to meet your individual requirements and goals while taking in to consideration any pain, injuries or illnesses you may have.

This assessment will involve some discussion around your health and physical activity history as well as some movement assessments to ascertain an appropriate starting point for your exercise program. Your AEP will work with you to set some goals for treatment and outline the steps we will take to work towards achieving them.
